Tadoba doesn't have accommodation inside the reserve itself, so where you sleep means picking a gate village and staying close to it. The two main clusters are Moharli, the busier and longer-established base, and Kolara, quieter and increasingly popular with visitors who want a calmer stay. Both put you within a short drive of your morning gate — which matters, because a late arrival at the gate can cost you your slot.
The range at Moharli
Moharli has the widest spread of options in the Tadoba area, from full-service jungle resorts with pools, multi-course meals and naturalist-led evening talks, down to simple family-run guesthouses charging a fraction of the price. Because it's the older, more established hub, you'll also find more mid-range lodges here — comfortable rooms, home-style meals, a machan or watchtower to sit out on in the evening. It's a sensible default if you want choice and don't mind a livelier village around you.
The range at Kolara
Kolara has grown fast in recent years but still feels smaller and more low-key. Expect a similar spread — a handful of upscale resorts, several solid mid-range lodges, and simpler guesthouses — but fewer total properties and a quieter atmosphere after dark. If Kolara zone is on your permit, staying here rather than commuting from Moharli saves real time on a 6 a.m. gate call.
What actually varies
Price aside, the differences between properties come down to a handful of practical things: whether meals are included or à la carte, how far the property actually sits from the gate (some "near Tadoba" listings are a 30-minute drive away), whether jeeps and naturalists are arranged in-house, and whether rooms are air-conditioned — worth checking if you're travelling between March and June.
Our advice
Match your stay to your permit, not the other way around — book the zone and gate first, then find a property genuinely close to it. Ask directly about gate distance and drive time before booking, confirm meals and safari arrangements in writing, and in peak season (December–February) book both safaris and stay well ahead, since Tadoba's popularity means the best-located properties fill early.
